Shroud
The Shroud series (2013) stems from a biographical experience of the artist who, in 1999, was barred from donating blood to his own father due to the prohibition against homosexual donors. Years later, in collaboration with doctors and chemical engineers, Nóbrega transformed his blood into printer ink. Using this ink, he printed a series of naive flowers and healing or protective plants used in Afro-Brazilian religions (such as Mother-in-law's tongue and Guinea Henweed), creating a "flower shop." In 2020, the Supreme Federal Court (STF) overturned this ban and, to celebrate this milestone, invited the artist to exhibit the series in the Court’s Hall of Busts. The exhibition featured an introductory text by Justice Luís Roberto Barroso, president of the STF at the time. The title Shroud appropriates the religious concept of the cloth that wrapped the body of Christ and retained the impression of his face.
